Advocacy

The Personal Advocacy Program began at Ardmore, Inc. in 2012. The program is designed to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities while giving families and/or guardians a peace of mind that there will be someone to support the individual and help speak up for them if needed.
A Life Plan is developed to help provide guidance to the Advocate as to what is important to know about the person served. Along with social activities, the Advocate is also able to participate at meetings (ISP or Special Meetings).
The Personal Advocate acts as a surrogate family member to ensure that the participant’s rights are not compromised. Quality time is spent with each participant doing meaningful recreation and leisure activities (either one to one or with a small group). Time spent not only gives the participant an opportunity to socialize in the community but allows them to develop a caring and trusting relationship with their Advocate. Some of the meaningful activities have included: swimming, hiking, meals out, concerts, sporting events, vacations and Church Programs.
